The Housing Industry Association has appointed former Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA director of advocacy Cath Hart as its Western Australian regional director.
Ms Hart (formerly Cath Langmead) has more than 18 years experience in advocacy, public policy and journalism and will take up her role on the 12th of November.
She joins the HIA after working as director of advocacy for the Chamber of Commerce, having previously worked with major newspapers including the Australian, and as part of the Federal Press Gallery in Canberra.
She is also the director of startup Shareitage, an online podcast platform, and was recently a fellow of council at Guildford Grammar School.
“I am delighted to be joining the HIA team at such an important time for the residential construction industry in Western Australia,” Ms Hart said.
“The sector makes a significant contribution to the economy and I am passionate about the important role the housing industry plays in the community – access to housing is a bedrock which enables families and individuals to contribute their full potential and to secure work, education and opportunity for themselves.
“With confidence steadily returning to the West Australian market, now is a critical time for effective advocacy to local, state and federal governments.”
HIA managing director Graham Wolfe welcomed Ms Hart to the organisation.
“Western Australia is an important area for HIA, Cath’s prior experience in advocacy and journalism means she brings strong leadership credentials to the already strong WA team,” he said.
