Design agency HASSELL has been selected to develop a master plan for the 56-hectare Burswood Park on the Swan River foreshore.

The company has already developed spaces in Burswood, including the design of Optus Stadium.

The appointment was led by the Burswood Park Board.

Burswood Park general manager Linda Kut said the park had continued to evolve and welcome new attractions and developments since its establishment in 1986.

She said the most recent and significant changes to the park occurred six years ago when the public golf course was closed to make way for Optus Stadium.

“This master plan will build on that and set the direction for Burswood Park over the next decade and beyond – creating new community and event spaces, while still maintaining our strong commitment to the site’s unique history and natural environment,” Ms Kut said.

HASSELL principal Anthony Brookfield said the company had a strong history in developing spaces in Burswood.

“HASSELL has particular experience in the area, having previously led the design of the neighbouring Crown Towers and Optus Stadium sites, including Stadium Park,” Mr Brookfield said.

“The Burswood Park master plan is an exciting development which will focus on community, environment and establishing a sense of place which is quintessentially Perth.”

Mr Brookfield said the parkland could showcase Western Australia while providing a wide range of recreational uses.
