Green light for Northbridge Link

THE City of Perth has formally agreed to proceed with the Northbridge Link Project, which will involve the sinking of the rail lines in Northbridge. The City of Perth has agreed to contribute $25 million plus land worth an estimated $6.25 million towards the project. The State Government has agreed to contribute $25 million and a parcel of land. The Mandurah-Clarkson line will run underground in the city to a point west of Lake Street and the Fremantle line will travel underground from Perth railway station to the same point. Lord Mayor Dr Peter Natrass said the decision was without a doubt one of the most important ones the council had made. “It will realise a long-held vision to remove the barrier that has divided Northbridge from the Perth CBD for more than a century,” he said. “We will have an open canvas of 10 hectares on which to create something really special in terms of urban development and open space.”
