Rapid growth has driven Great Southern Plantations to seek a new head office for the second time in two years.
This week the company will take over a 3,120 square metre lease in Parliament Place, West Perth, with plans to initially occupy 2,240sq m and sublet the remaining 880sq m on a short-term basis.
The space Great Southern has taken is significantly larger than the 1,260 square metres the company occupies in its current head office premises at 1205 Hay St, West Perth.
Great Southern intends to move 90 staff to the new premises in February or March 2006, according to Great Southern Plantations general manager Cameron Rhodes.
“However, since that time [the previous move] we have made several strategic acquisitions, expanded our product range and increased our staff numbers considerably,” Mr Rhodes said.
“As a result, we are now at absolute capacity and the decision was taken that, to accommodate our current staff as well as allow for our future expansion, we would require new head office premises.”
In addition to the head office, Great Southern has a WA sales office (also in West Perth), sales offices in every state capital, and offices for operational staff in the forestry, horticulture and cattle divisions in Albany, Margaret River, south-western Victoria, Darwin, Melville Island (NT), Kangaroo Island (SA) and King Island (TAS).
In the Deloitte WA Stock Exchange Index of WA’s top 100 listed companies, Great Southern is ranked at number 13, with a market capitalisation of $821 million as at August 31 2005.
The company manages land holdings of more than 200,000 hectares across the country, including its flagship plantation estate of more than 115,000ha in WA’s South West.
