The state government has selected Indigenous business CareyMC to complete upgrades at Two Rocks Marina, while BMD Constructions has been appointed to a project in the Wheatbelt.

CareyMC, a subsidiary of Malaga-based Carey Mining, was awarded a $3.1 million contract from the Department of Transport to build new toilet facilities and additional parking at Two Rocks Marina, as well as complete improvements to paths, services, landscaping, and furniture in the area.

The work, dubbed the Southern Foreshore Landscaping project, is part of the second phase of a redevelopment of the marina.

CareyMC is scheduled to start work after the school holidays.

“This is another important step forward for the Two Rocks Marina upgrade, which will deliver long awaited improvements while implementing the long-term vision for the marina,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

Almost $19 million worth of upgrades have been completed at the marina since late 2014, including the installation of new floating jetties and improvements to the breakwater structure.

Meanwhile, the department has selected BMD Group’s construction arm to complete a $15.2 million bridge replacement over Hotham River in the Wheatbelt.

BMD will build a new 88-metre bridge to replace a nearby structure, built in 1928.

Ms Saffioti said the project was intended to improve road safety, noting the existing Hotham River bridge is used by almost 3,000 vehicles each day.

"We are continuing to deliver major regional road improvements throughout WA, in particular through our Regional Road Safety Program that will upgrade 7,000 kilometres of roads,” she said.

The new bridge will be built 30 metres east of the existing bridge.
