Government Prosecutions

The owners of Perth roofing company Thommo’s Roofing have been fined $12,000 for failing to provide a safe workplace and, by that failure, causing serious harm to an employee.

Adam and Donna Kleeman own the company and pleaded guilty to the charge.

A Thommo’s Roofing employee sustained serious head and chest injuries, multiple factures and permanent facial paralysis and hearing loss when he fell around eight metres through a roof onto the concrete floor below.

He was not wearing a safety harness, there was no edge protection on the exposed edges of the roof and no fall prevention systems were in place.

If the Kleemans had not pleaded guilty, there was a chance the penalty could have been substantially higher.
