A local subsidiary of Norway's Global Maritime Group is the latest company to be awarded a contract for work at Woodside Petroleum’s operations in the North West Shelf.

Global Maritime has been hired to provide mooring and rig positioning services for the energy giant’s semi-submersible drilling unit Ocean Monarch, out of its established office in West Perth.

The unit is drilling at the Julimar field in the North West Shelf, with mobilisation and offshore operations beginning in May.

“Winning this contract confirms the importance of flexibility and local presence, with availability of equipment and personnel,” Global Maritime deep sea mooring Australia managing director Barry Silver said.

“This is our first contract with Woodside, and we look forward to developing a close cooperation going forward.”

Woodside shares closed 2.9 per cent lower to $33.62 each.
