Georgiou wins $67m highway project

The Queensland government has awarded Perth-based Georgiou Group the Bruce Highway – Cairns Southern Access Corridor stage four project, in joint venture with local construction company Koppens Developments.

The project will involve upgrading 2.6 kilometres of the highway from four to six lanes, and aims to improve traffic flow, freight delivery and road safety south of Cairns.

Construction has commenced with expected completion in 2021.

Chief executive officer Rob Monaci said the group had delivered numerous road improvement projects for the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads.

“We understand our client’s needs and look forward to working with our partners – Koppens Developments – to provide a high-quality project for our client and the local community,” he said.

“A key element of our growth strategy is to firmly establish ourselves in the road infrastructure and transport sectors across Australia.

“We look forward to working in Cairns and continuing to deliver infrastructure that keeps Australians moving.”

Georgiou was recently awarded a $70 million project for the Marina East apartments on the Swan River in Belmont, a $14.5 million state government contract for upgrades to the Great Eastern Highway near Glen Forrest, and an $18.7 million privately-funded contract to construct a traffic bridge approximately 25km south-west of Port Hedland.

The company has additionally been awarded the NSW Northern Road upgrade project in joint venture with Ertech, valued at more than $120 million.
