Georgiou Group has won a contract for a $230 million upgrade of the Townsville Ring Road in Queensland.

The Oborne Park-based contractor announced the contract selection by Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads today.

The road is part of Bruce Highway.

The contract will include duplicating a five-kilometre road section, bridges, flood mitigation, lighting and intelligent transport systems.

Georgiou executive general manager eastern region, Gary Georgiou, said the company had worked with Queensland’s roads department previously.

“We look forward to showcasing our design and construction expertise while providing this vital infrastructure link to the local community,” he said.

The company is already working on road projects near Cairns and Eight Mile Plains.

Construction of the ring road will begin mid-2021 and be finished by early 2023.

In August, Georgiou said its order book had eclipsed $900 million after it was chosen for the Leach Highway and Welshpool Road intersection.
