Georgiou Group wins govt tender

Malaga-based engineering company Georgiou Group has been selected by the state government to build a new infrastructure project at the Australian Marine Complex Common User Facility at Henderson.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced Georgiou as the successful tenderer for construction of a new transfer and lay-by wharf, to complement the floating dock and Self Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMT) system, both of which are currently in development.

The floating dock would abut the transfer wharf allowing for the transfer of vessels, using the SPMT system, to the hardstand area of the facility for repair and maintenance work.

The transfer wharf is vital infrastructure at the marine complex, which will help create additional job opportunities, allowing WA to bid for a range of major maintenance and construction projects across the marine, defence and resources sectors.

Meanwhile this month marks the fifth anniversary of the facility, which was established in 2003.

Industry and Enterprise Minister Francis Logan said the Common User Facility had surpassed all expectations and was now a significant contributor to the State's economic boom.

"Since it opened, the Common User Facility has generated in excess of $233million for the local economy and created more than 3,500 jobs from about 200 contracts," Mr Logan said.
