GenusPlus wins $15m FFI contract

Power and communications infrastructure provider GenusPlus Group has won a $15 million contract with Fortescue Future Industries to build a substation at FFI’s Green Energy Manufacturing Centre in Queensland.

The Belmont-based company has been contracted to design and construct a 275-kilovolt substation at what is tipped to be Australia’s first electrolyser manufacturing centre in Gladstone.

Stage one of FFI’s green-powered manufacturing hub began with construction of the $114 million electrolyser facility in February.

The electrolysers will then be used to produce green hydrogen, a fuel containing no carbon.

Once built, the substation will support the centre's operations, with work beginning immediately and estimated to be completed in 2023.

The centre is expected to become the world’s largest electrolyser manufacturing facility by producing a target production of 15 million tonnes of green hydron per year by 2030.

GenusPlus managing director David Riches said he was excited by the opportunity to extend the relationship with the group. 

GenusPlus was previously contraced to deliver a 98-kilometre powerline for Fortescue Metals Group this time last year. 

“It is particularly pleasing to be expanding our Queensland presence working alongside a long-term valued customer at the forefront of the green energy revolution,” Mr Riches said.

“GenusPlus will engage a local workforce of 35 personnel to complete the project using local content from regional Queensland.

“This opportunity in the rapidly evolving Queensland market with FFI is a significant milestone for the Group."

At 3:27 pm AEDT, GenusPlus shares were up 5.26 per cent to trade at $1.00.
