Gallagher quits as Empire Beer MD

There was further change in the relatively new boutique brewing sector with Empire Beer Group Ltd announcing the resignation of Phillip Gallagher as managing director and a director of the company.

Mr Gallagher was a founding director of the company and has held the role of managing director since
the company's inception.

His move follows changes at Gage Roads Brewing Ltd, which recently saw the departure of its co-founder and managing director, Peter Nolin, as well as chairman Michael Perrot.

During this time the Company successfully listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and purchased the Colonial Brewing Co in Margaret River and the Royal Bar and Brasserie in East Perth.

The company said he is resigning from his role in Empire to pursue private business interests.

Empire Beer Group chairman Mel Ashton said in a statement that the board wished to thank Mr Gallagher for his significant efforts and contribution to the company during its formative stages.

"Phillip has built a solid foundation from which the company can grow both on astate and national level," he said.

Empire Beer Group said it will soon commence an aggressive recruitment strategy to identify and recruit a replacement Managing Director, but in the interim the board will appoint Brendan Cocks to the position of acting Chief Executive Officer.

A qualified chartered accountant, Mr Cocks has been with Empire for the past eight months as Business Development Manager.

Prior to this role he was the commercial manager for Lion Nathan in Western Australia.
