Belmont-based GR Engineering Services has executed a conditional $54.6 million contract to provide engineering procurement and construction works at MZI Resources’ planned Keysbrook mineral sands project near Serpentine.

The scope of the work includes the process engineering design and construction of a wet concentrator plant and associated infrastructure at Keysbrook and modifications to a minerals separation plant operated by Doral Mineral Sands in Picton.

GR Engineering said work would begin once certain conditions are satisfied, in particular MZI’s financing and offtake arrangements.

In October last year, GR Engineering was appointed as the preferred contractor for the project and since then, the it has completed early engineering work at the site.

GR Engineering managing director Geoff Jones said the ability to complete early work at the site provided the company with a better understanding of the project.

MZI said in a statement that the early work conducted by GR Engineering has de-risked the construction work ahead.

The signing of the construction contract is one of the final steps required before work can begin, however, a development decision is yet to be formalised.
