From Workshop to Boardroom: National Award-Winning CEO

City of Belmont chief executive officer Shayne Silcox is presenting a breakfast seminar for the Australian Human Resources Institute on June 10 at the WA Club. Dr Silcox – a success story who made the transition from human resources practitioner to chief executive officer – will present on how his organisation (the City of Nedlands, where he was CEO before moving to Belmont) won the National Best Practice Excellence Medal, the premier business award in Australia and the first win by a Western Australian organisation. He will describe how his experience in human resources informed the philosophy he adopted in leading the organisation to being recognised as the best in Australia, and how his own continuous learning and development contributed to this success. Dr Silcox will also share his thoughts on connecting the human resources function to organisational objectives and how human resources managers can raise the profile of it as a strategic function. Dr Silcox began his career as a motor mechanic before moving into human resources and then senior management, in the local government, State government (Western Power) and private sectors.
