Fitness freaks need more Jacob’s ladders

I note the fuss made around the recent closure of Jacob’s Ladder, a stairway to Kings Park which, due to its popularity as an exercise venue, has earned the ire of local residents.

Probably because Jacobs ladder is outside, and free? And because Perth has no texture - except for Kings park. Its mostly a flat flood plain. Very little we can do about that... Jacobs ladder reminds me of umpteen urban stairways in Hong Kong which is of course very hilly - very popular with exercisers and boot campers.

How about Bay View Park in Mosman Park - very steep hill and fantastic views. Federal and state funds available for community fitness projects.

Not just fitness freaks that need acces to suitable exercise spots. Perth is supposed to be in a period of belt-tightening but the figures suggest belts are getting looser as people's waistlines expand. Jacob's Ladder has to reopen or the government's and the city's get active mantra is as empty as the box of Krispy Kreme's on the passenger seat.

There seems to be very little interest in the fact that Jacob's Ladder has been used for many decades as an access route for people wishing to go down to the River and to access West Perth from the River. Jacob's Ladder will be missed by those pedestrians that preferred to walk rather than take a car.

There is another set of steps behind the Old Brewery called The Kakoda Track". It is excellent for uphill stair training and even better for downhill mountain bike training!

Congratulations for the lack of thought put into that comment - the area is out of bound for bicyles, not to mention incredibly dangerous to anyone else using the area. Its right up there with the people who use the area with dogs off leads etc etc.
