Fish talk

THE State Government has ridiculed talk that WA fisheries could be incorporated into federal control.

State Fisheries Minister Kim Chance said the move would be swapping good management for bad.

The possibility of such a move was raised by Federal Minister Wilson Tuckey.

WA’s fisheries have been held up as one of the best managed in the world.

The local Fisheries Department’s reputation is so strong that scientists from WA have been blamed for boosting the productivity of rival fisheries by sharing research and information with them.

About 10 per cent of WA’s waters are already controlled from Canberra.
