FISHERIES Minister Kim Chance has released a discussion paper developed with the assistance of a working group comprising key stakeholders, on fish stock and fishery enhancement for public comment.
The paper, Fish Stock and Fishery Enhancement in Western Australia, will help guide decision-makers to assess the appropriateness of fish stock enhancement proposals.
The discussion paper outlines a series of steps through which individual enhancement proposals would be assessed and does not recommend whether stock enhancement in WA should take place. A second paper has also been released that provides an overview of key proposals outlined in the discussion paper.
"Comments on this paper are sought from all stakeholders, including the commercial and recreational fishing sectors, new and existing aquaculturalists, various Government agencies, interest groups and the public," Mr Chance said.
The public submission period closes on May 31 and copies of the Fish Stock and Fishery Enhancement in Western Australia discussion paper are available from http://www.fish.wa.gov.au or by contacting the Department of Fisheries on 9482 7333.
