Subiaco-based FIRM Construction has been selected to build a new primary school in Perth’s south, set to open in 2023.

FIRM was awarded the $24.2 million contract to build the Wellard Village Primary School from the Department of Finance last month, according to Tenders WA.

Wellard, designed by Oldfield Knott Architects, is one of a handful of public schools set to open in 2023, with others including the Landsdale South and West Swan (Dayton) primary schools.

Those builds were awarded to McCorkell Constructions and Universal Constructions.

The Wellard school will have a capacity to accommodate 650 students, with construction to start this year. Included in the build is an administration block, a library, staffroom, kindergarten and pre-primary block, general learning blocks, an assembly area, an oval and hard courts, and parking.

FIRM is due to finish construction in November 2022.

The business is also completing upgrades to the Ocean Reef and Lakeland high schools under separate contracts totalling $9.8 million.

FIRM's notable school projects include the construction of the International School of WA in Doubleview and a new boarding house at Guildford Grammar.
