Family owned business Pearl Sea Coastal Cruises has suffered a blow with a fire destroying its $2.3 million luxury cruise liner, the Kimberley Quest.
The research vessel had been in port in Broome undergoing repairs when a fire was reported just before midnight on Wednesday.
The blaze was contained by 9:30am today.
"The fire is out and at this stage we are breaking down the debris into pieces so we can take it to landfill and prevent any possible pollution," said Broome Port Authority chief executive Vic Justice.
"We are working with the police and fire and emergency crews to make sure everything is coordinated and everything is now under control."
Police spokeswoman Ros Weatherall said no one was aboard the boat.
