Finance and Investment Week

The Securities Institute and the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance are presenting the third annual Finance and Investment Week from July 25 to 29. This is a national event, and three events are planned for Western Australia. 1. JobReady Online Launch JobReady Online is the Securities Institute’s new job website, connecting job-ready members and students with key recruiters and employers. It allows recruiters to directly access high calibre candidates qualified in financial services, and provides members with a gateway to employers who value their level of education. The free launch is on July 25, at the Securities Institute Lecture Room, Level 33 Exchange Plaza. 2. Biotechnology Showcase The first half of 2005 has seen the Australian biotechnology industry live up to its reputation as a highly volatile and cyclical sector. With a number of small and medium-size companies emerging as winners, the focus for the sector is when the upturn will arrive and how big it might be. Speaking at the showcase are Phylogica Limited chief executive officer Stewart Washer and pSivida Limited investor relations manager Brian Leedman. Both companies are promising ASX-listed Western Australian biotechnology companies. The showcase is at the Sheraton Hotel on July 27, and tickets are $77 for members and $99 for non-members. 3. Investing in Shares Seminar This seminar, at the Parmelia Hilton on July 28, will be presented by: • Macquarie Financial Services’ Ian Clarke (Valuing shares – When do I sell? When do I buy?); • Bell Potter Securities’ Heather Zampatti (IPOs – How to pick a good one); • Goldman Sachs JBWere’s Philip McCall (Margin Lending and borrowing to purchase shares); and • Australian Securities and Investment Commission’s WA regional commissioner Angus Dale-Jones (Scams, traps and tips for investing in shares). Tickets are $33. For registration and other details, contact Jillian Klaver at the Securities Institute on 9223 7226 or j.klaver@securities.edu.au.
