Films under the stars

THE Perth Festival Lotteries Film Season commences at the University of WA’s Somerville Auditorium in from December 4 and at Joondalup in Edith Cowan University’s Pines Picture Garden from December 11.

The program for 2000-01 features an exclusive season of 18 first release films from 11 countries including six Australian premieres and many major award winners – all from recent international festivals.

Australian films include Paul Cox’s Innocence (winner of the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival in May) and Mojgan Khadem’s Serenades, a story of a young Aboriginal girl who embarks on an epic journey in search of her identity.

The film stars Alice Haines, who will also be presented by the Perth Festival and Yirra Yaakin Noongar Theatre in a one-woman show during January.

The Somerville Auditorium has been refurbished. Wheelchair access and lighting has also been upgraded.
