PART of Barrack Street may be closed and the City Station Forecourt given a major facelift under a Perth City Council proposal.
Council has asked the Minister for Lands Doug Shave to close a 37 square metre portion of Barrack Street and excise the City Station Forecourt so it can carry out landscaping works.
The part of Barrack Street to be closed is at the Roe Street and Beaufort Street intersection over which the City Station complex has been constructed.
A staff note to council said the Department of Land Administration had asked for this portion of the road reserve to be closed and included in the City Station Reserve.
It developed a landscape design for the station forecourt in 1997 in concert with the Forrest Place and Environs Enhancement Project.
Some immediate works were completed during 1997-98 but many of the design concepts remain outstanding.
The council also wants to knock down the walkway along the northern side of Forrest Place to provide better views of the City Station.
