FIRM Construction has been awarded a $7.9 million contract by the Public Transport Authority of WA for a refurbishment of the Nowergup railcar depot.
Under the 2.5-year contract, the Public Transport Authority said FIRM would refurbish the Nowergup depot due to the need to accommodate the increased maintenance activities.
The Nowergup depot, which is located between Joondalup and Yanchep, was constructed in 2004 to service 31 railcars.
Since then, a further 37 railcars were added to the fleet to meet demand on the Joondalup and Mandurah lines, and 10 railcars were placed to service the new Forrestfield-Airport link.
This increased the total fleet size to 78.
FIRM beat six other submissions to secure the contract.
In June, FIRM commenced construction on the $40 million Hotel Rottnest upgrade.
