With the tight immigration policy, I believe that the easier way to get in to this country is through illegal boat and ask for Asylum. Qualiified migrants on 457 visa have to wait for two years when applying PR [permanent residency] where as if you come here on boat you can get PR in seven months!!!!

As an International student paying 20,000 dollars for 2 years study at Tafe, I am interested to hear the government minister Chris Evans say he wishes to "crackdown on people seeking permanent residency through low-value education courses". Since Tafe is a government education institution, I would have to agree with him... Pay 20,000 dollars for something that local students can get for a couple of thousand dollars. I don't think many people believe we would pay this for "low value education", as much as for the Permanent Residence aspect that many people are sold these courses as. After working for over six years as a teacher and youthworker in my home country of Ireland, my experience was not recognised for emigration, along with many who are doing these courses, despite being highly qualified, but not having their qualifications or experience recognised for the purpose of emigration. The 18 billion dollar education industry is about to grind to a halt. Good luck with the mining tax.
