Ertech wins Great Northern Hwy works

Contractor Ertech has been awarded forward works on the $40 million upgrade of a section of the Great Northern Highway about 200 kilometres north of Perth.

The 11km stretch of highway from Bindi Bindi to Lyons East Road is one of several sections of the Great Northern Highway set to be upgraded as part of a joint federal and state government plan to improve roads in the area.

The stretch of road will be straightened and widened to improve safety, allowing for the speed limit to be increased from 80 to 110km per hour.

Ertech managing director James Giumelli said the company looked forward to working with Main Roads WA to build a safer road.

More than 300,000 cubic metres of earth will be moved and a new rail crossing will be installed.

The federal government will provide $32 million towards the upgrade, with the state government pitching in $8 million.

The works are set to begin later this year and be completed by mid-2015.
