Engineers hit by shortages

THE Association of Consulting Engineers Australia has released results of a survey of its members into how skills shortages are affecting firms in the industry. According to the survey, the issue has become a major concern in the sector, particularly for respondents in Western Australia. From the 60 respondents to the survey, 73 per cent said skills shortages were a critical issue for their firm, with 85 per cent of firms stating that the issue is having a negative impact on business. The survey identified the engineering disciplines most affected are structural and civil, identified by 60 and 56 per cent of all respondents respectively.
