CITY of Wanneroo coordinator engineering operations, Harminder Singh, has been nominated for the 2003 StateWest Achievement Awards.
Mr Singh was nominated by the city’s technical services manager operations Phil Calley.
Mr Calley said Mr Singh had performed exceptionally well over the past two years, culminating with him winning the city’s employee of the year award in 2002.
“He’s been recognised both by the community and the councillors for doing exceptional work with the Quinns Beach Coastal Management project,” he said.
“He is a particularly productive employee.”
Quinns Beach suffered severe erosion in 1996 after winter storms and Mr Singh has been associated with the project since that time.
From 1996 to 2001 he organised annual sand renourishment works with a total expenditure of $500,000 and prepared the city’s application to the Western Australian Planning Commission seeking its approval for the recommended coastal protection works.
Mr Singh also prepared the city’s submissions to successive State Governments seeking funding assistance to undertake the recommended works.
The council secured $1 million of Western Australian Government funding in November and Mr Singh managed the $1 million contract for the construction of Stage 1 of the coastal protection works at Quinns Beach.
Mr Singh also managed a traffic management plan for undertaking the construction of a dual lane roundabout at the Marmion Avenue-Anchorage Drive intersection in Mindarie.
Traffic volumes at this intersection were up to 20,000 vehicles per day and he was able to manage the construction, while maintaining full vehicle accessibility.
That project won a Case Earth Award.
