Perth-based rail maintenance services business Gemco Rail has been awarded two contracts worth $5 million for the maintenance of trains on Perth's metropolitan railway network.
Gemco, a subsidiary of listed engineering services group Engenco, will service and maintain bogies and wheel-sets on the Public Transport Authority's A-series electric commuter trains.
The contracts were awarded by EDI Rail Bombardier Transportation, a joint venture between Downer EDI and Bombardier Transportation Australia, which is contracted to provide cleaning and maintenance services for the entire fleet of narrow-guage trains for the PTA, including the A-series and B-series commuter trains.
"For the past 18 months, the Gemco Rail team has been working closely with EDI Rail Bombardier to develop the procedures needed for this highly-skilled overhaul process," Engenco managing director Ross Dunning said.
"This contract is another instance of how Engenco's focus on customers' needs has led to a tailored solution for EDI Rail Bombardier."
The work will be carried out over a four-year term at Gemco's rolling-stock maintenance facilities in Forrestfield.
