Empty office block faces rebirth

PLANS to turn an eleven storey office building into an apartment complex with a ground floor gymnasium and eating house have been approved by council.

The $8 million project will turn the empty office tower at 255 Adelaide Terrace into a fifty-five apartment building.

A staff note to council said the project would contribute to inner city living.

However, the development does not comply with City Planning Scheme and Residential Planning Codes in regards to plot ratio and density.

A plot ratio of 4:1 is proposed with the total allowed being 4:1 with 1.5:1 for residential.

The developers are asking to put in fifty-five units while the R-codes only allow twenty.
