Junior oil explorer Empire Oil & Gas NL will start oil production from its new strike at Rough Range in July.
Through wholly-owned subsidiary Rough Range Oil Pty Ltd, the company will commence oil production from the Rough Range 1B well, located in exploration permit EP41 Part 3 Exmouth Sub-Basin.
Production tests will commence in mid-July 2000.
The tests will provide the company with an immediate cash flow as well as provide a more accurate resource determination of the oil in place and the ultimate oil recovery from the Rough Range field.
The Rough Range 1B well flowed at an average stabilised rate of 1,106 barrels of oil per day during a twenty-four hour test.
The oil production rate is planned at between 400 to 1,000 barrels of oil per day initially to provide reservoir characteristics and the optimal oil production flow rates.
The company is also updating its appraisals of South Rough Range, Parrot Hill and a number of separate simple anticlinal prospects considered highly prospective for further accumulations in respect to the Rough Range 1B and Central Rough Range No. 1 wells.
