AN INITIATIVE by the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River to provide effective coordinated emergency management has been acknowledged by Emergency Services Minister Kevin Prince.
The Shire was named as a finalist in the WA division of the inaugural Safer Communities Awards 2000.
“The Augusta-Margaret River program provided a new model for local governments for co-ordination and funding of emergency services,” Mr Prince said.
“It guaranteed that the shire would contribute 4 per cent of its budget to emergency management, but placed responsibility for equitable allocation of the funding in the hands of local advisory committees.”
