THE new man behind the driving wheel of Austeel’s massive $5 billion iron and steel project is a North American John C. Elmore.
He was employed by Ryerson Tull Inc, formerly Inland Steel Industries Inc, North America’s largest metal distributor.
Mr Elmore resigned as managing director after a 20-year career with Ryerson International Inc last month to join Austeel.
Inland Steel Industries was a Fortune 125 company with sales in excess of US$6 billion prior to the sale of Inland Steel Co to the LNM Group (Ispat) in 1998.
Austeel chairman Clive Palmer said the appointment demon-strated the commitment the Austeel board had in only appointing executives of international standing and with demonstrated expertise at the highest level.
This announcement follows the August signing of a memorandum of understanding between Austeel and the North West Shelf Venture participants for the supply of gas to the Austeel project.
