ERG makes French connection

ERG Group has won four more automated fare collection contracts in Normandy, France.

The contracts are valued at around $14.7 million and are for the city of Rouen, the nearby town of Elbeuf, the city of Caen and the surrounding Calvados region.

In Rouen, ERG Transit Sys-tems will supply an AFC system for the new TEOR tramway that will be compatible with the existing magnetic system, implemented by ERG in 1994.

This will allow passengers to use the one ticket to travel throughout the city.

ERG will supply and install ticket vending machines at stops along the TEOR line and will install magnetic validators on the trams.

The magnetic tickets issued in Rouen will also be able to be used in Elbeuf.

It is expected the system will be upgraded to smart card technology in the next few years initially involving more than 150,000 smart cards.

ERG Transit Systems will also provide a new AFC system for Caen and the surrounding Calvados region.

The company’s revenue collection system will be installed on the 450 regional and urban buses as well as on a new north-south tramway, which will commence in September 2002.

Combined magnetic/contactless smart card validators will also be installed on urban buses and will be interfaced with the existing management services system that provides statistical information to the operator.

In Greater Caen, 35,000 smart cards will be issued.

ERG Transit Systems France is situated in Besançon and has been operating since 1991.

Headquartered in Perth, the ERG Group has manufacturing facilities in WA and Belgium and 22 offices in 14 countries across four continents.
