EFCO Industries has been contracted to apply a protective coating to the jetty's support piles, fender piles and other steelwork.
"Work on site is expected to start in early December with the progressive removal of the existing paintwork using high-pressure abrasive blasting and application of a new protective coating," said Transport Minister Simon O'Brien.
The company is required to avoid disruption to shipping activities in the port while applying the protective coatings.
The work is expected to be finished by April 2011.
The contract is part of a number of improvements to the jetty which will account for approximately $6 million of the total $10 million in funding for the port from the Federal Government.

A contract for nearly $1million has been awarded for vital work to protect and prolong the working life of the jetty at Wyndham port.
Transport Minister Simon O'Brien and Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the application of a protective coating to the jetty support piles, fender piles and other steelwork was a key part of the recently announced $10million expansion and enhancement plan for the facility.
"Work on site is expected to start in early December with the progressive removal of the existing paintwork using high-pressure abrasive blasting and application of a new protective coating," Mr O'Brien said.
"Refurbishment of the protective coatings on the steelwork will maintain the condition of the jetty and ensure its maximum useful life is achieved.
"The jetty is the key infrastructure at the port and vital to its future operation."
Earlier this month, Bayswater based company, EFCO Industries was awarded the protective coatings contract valued at $994,326 by the project manager, the Department of Transport (DoT). The company is required to avoid disruption to shipping activities in the port and it is anticipated the work will be completed by April 2011.
Mr Grylls said the contract was part of a number of improvements to the jetty that would account for approximately $6million of the total $10million in funding for the port from the Federal Government's East Kimberley Development Package.
"The installation of a new fendering system for the jetty, which will replace the existing timber system that is reaching the end of its life, is expected to begin in February and is due for completion in the middle of next year," Mr Grylls said.
Other works in the upgrade include
- preparation of a strategic development plan for the future of the port
- replacement and renovation of port buildings on the jetty and on land
- reconstruction and extension of the hardstand area for storage of additional sea containers
- upgrading of electrical transformers, switching gear and jetty cathodic protection.
"It's anticipated works on site will be progressively undertaken with overall project completion expected by late 2011," Mr O'Brien said.
Operated by DoT, Wyndham Port is being expanded to maintain or increase its current trade in livestock, nickel concentrate, fuel, ammonium nitrate and general cargo, while meeting the future needs of the expanding Ord River Irrigation System.
