Local contractor EC&M has been awarded the electrical, instrumentation and controls construction contract for Chinese company Tianqi Lithium’s $400 million processing facility in Kwinana.
Head contractor MSP Engineering announced the deal, saying that the lithium hydroxide processing plant remained on track to be complete by the end of 2018.
The Kwinana-based project is a rare example of downstream processing of minerals in Western Australia.
Henderson-based EC&M is expected to begin work at the start of next year.
“The award of the contract to EC&M demonstrates Tianqi and MSP’s commitment to working with local contractors and suppliers and supporting WA’s labour and manufacturing industry,” MSP said in a statement.
