A joint venture between Downer EDI and German train manufacturer Bombardier Transportation has secured a $40 million contract to supply maintenance services on 22 new Public Transport Authority trains.
The 22 three-car electric trains are due to be delivered in 2016.
In 2011 the joint venture, EDI Rail Bombardier Transportation, was awarded a seven and a half year, $285 million contract to maintain 46 trains.
The new contract is for five-and-a-half years with an option for an extension of an additional seven and a half years.
Downer chief executive Grant Fenn said the contract further built on a 10-year relationship with the PTA providing maintenance and cleaning work.
