Doray Minerals founding directors Allan Kelly and Heath Hellewell have won the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies prospector of the year award for 2014.
The Perth-based gold explorer won the award for its discovery of the high-grade deposits at the Andy Well gold project, located north of Meekatharra.
In March 2010, the first hold drilled by Doray at Andy Well intersected the Wilber lobe, which became the foundation of the company’s mining operation.
Doray said two additional parallel deposits had since been discovered, and other promising zones of mineralisation had been identified.
Managing director Mr Kelly said the award was a great honour, particularly given the pedigree of past winners and their standing in the Australian exploration industry.
“It is pleasing to be recognised for what has been achieved to date at Andy Well,” he said.
“But there is still a firm belief within the company that we have only scratched the surface when it comes to testing the area’s full potential.”
The company said it had extensive exploration programs under way, both within the Andy Well project area and in the broader northern Murchison region.
Doray said its primary aim now was to extend the life of the well beyond the initial 3.7 years outlined in the feasibility study.
Mr Hellewell, who stepped down as director of Doray at the end of the financial year, accepted the award at an AMEC function in Perth last night.
Doray last traded at 88.5 cents per share at 12:10pm WST.
