Ross Donaldson will replace Sandy Anghie as Australian Institute of Architects WA President from next year.
Ross Donaldson is set to become the next Australian Institute of Architects WA chapter president, following Sandy Anghie stepping down from the position.
Ms Anghie last week announced that she would not run for another term as president of the institute, after three years in the job.
She welcomed Mr Donaldson into the role and reflected on her time as WA president.
“I know the position is in very good hands with incoming WA President Ross Donaldson,” Ms Anghie said.
“Ross is a well-known and respected architect with extensive experience across a broad spectrum of roles, from his own firm to leading a global architecture practice, as well as senior roles in education and advocacy.
“I look forward to continuing to work with him in my new role as Immediate Past President.”
Mr Donaldson is a current member of the Australian Institute of Architects and chair of its sustainability taskforce.
With has more than four decades’ experience in architecture, he had his own practice in the 1990s, before moving to global firm Woods Bagot.
In 2017, Mr Donaldson founded property advisory company EPM Experimental, which he is still a director of.
In his nomination statement, Mr Donaldson praised the work of his peers.
“Good architects in Australia are equal to the best in the world and across my career I have been lucky enough to work with many of them,” he said.
“I have worked across the full spectrum of practice from my own small practice through to leading Woods Bagot’s international growth as CEO.”
Mr Donaldson is also adjunct professor at UWA and a member of the Curtin Advisory Board.
Ms Anghie dismissed speculation that she was stepping aside to prepare to run for Lord Mayor, given Basil Zempilas’ focus on state politics.
“It’s not something I’m thinking about,” Ms Anghie told Business News.
Instead, the two-time Lord Mayor aspirant is focusing her efforts on Perth Design Week, which is coming up to its third year in 2025.
Mr Donaldson is also adjunct professor at UWA and a member of the Curtin Advisory Board.
He will start as AIA WA president in February 2025.
