THE SMALL Business Development Corpora-tion has warned small business operators to ensure they pay their tax by the due date of 1 July.
SBDC managing director George Etrel-ezis said, under the new Pay-As-You-Go system, the Australian Tax Office would expect payments on or before the due date.
“If the due date is Saturday, Sunday or a public holiday, the tax has to be paid on the preceding business day,” Mr Etrelezis.
He said small business operators could find themselves burdened with interest charges if their tax was not paid on time.
“No period of grace applies in respect of late payments,” he said.
Mr Etrelezis said small business should call the SBDC’s GST Transition Centre if they required any help in complying with the new tax system.
“The service is free,” he said.
