BHP workers could be tested for Legionnaires’ disease following reported contamination at the company’s Nickel West refinery south of Perth.

Legionella bacteria were allegedly detected in one of the cooling towers at the facility.

The news was reported on 6PR’s Perth Live program, which revealed CFMEU representatives visited the site yesterday afternoon.

A BHP spokesperson said the company had taken appropriate steps to ensure the health and safety of its workers, including disinfecting and barricading the tower.

Business News has contacted BHP for further comment.
