Work is expected to start later this year on Western Australia's first dedicated health and knowledge precinct in Murdoch, with developers sought to deliver up to 400 homes, 33,000 square metres of office space and more than 80 short-stay apartments.
State government agency LandCorp today kicked off the search for a private sector partner for a new land release near Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch, with a registrations of interest process for the first stage of the precinct to run until early next month.
Lands Minister Terry Redman said the first stage, which is expected to start construction later this year, would comprise seven lots ranging from 2,324sqm to 5,955sqm, while the entire precinct comprises 9.6 hectares of land.
“LandCorp is targeting medical research and associated commercial activities, consulting suites, clinics, community health and medical research facilities, education services and other complementary industries,” he said.
Mr Redman said the precinct’s proximity to Fiona Stanley Hospital and Murdoch University, as well as the Murdoch train station, would likely prove attractive to developers.
"Given its proximity to world-class hospitals and education institutions, the precinct will provide a dynamic, collaborative environment for research and development across both sectors.
"It will help accommodate Perth's growing population through the delivery of diverse housing choices connected to job opportunities and essential infrastructure.”
The Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct is designed to be a catalyst for the wider Murdoch Activity Centre, which will ultimately comprise up to 1,200 dwellings and 45,000sqm of health, retail and commercial space.
