It is vital that accommodation needs of patients and their families/ carers who are attending hospital from rural, regional and remote areas are factored in to this development. In particular, Aboriginal patients needs to be considered, and culturally appropriate accommodation options provided. The dearth of patient accommodation in the area has already significantly impacted on country patients. Short stay accommodation could significantly address this but needs to be a key part of the plan.
