Deep work comes to WAPET

Some of the deepest hydrocarbon exploration drilling offshore Australia soon will be undertaken by West Australian Petroleum Pty Limited (WAPET).

The company has announced that the drilling rig Marine 500 has arrived off the Pilbara coast in preparation for a three-hole exploration drilling programme in permits west of the Greater Gorgon gas fields with water depths of up to 1300 metres.

WAPET managing director Dr Jim Briggs said at the end of the programme the rig will undertake work for another operator before returning in the first quarter of 2000 to complete a four or five-well programme for WAPET.
