Decmil wins new government work

Engineering contractor Decmil Group has been shortlisted to design and build a pedestrian bridge linked to the new Perth Stadium, adding to recent government contract wins.

A joint venture between Decmil and OHL was one of four industry teams shortlisted to develop proposals for the 400-metre Swan River pedestrian bridge, which will provide pedestrian access to the stadium.  

Freyssinet Australia, Georgiou Group and a York Rizzani joint venture have also been chosen to prepare proposals for the bridge, which will connect the Burswood Peninsula to East Perth.

The bridge is expected to be completed by December 2016.

Australian design company Hassell has been awarded a $5.5 million contract for design of the stadium station, while contractor WBHO Civil has undertaken preliminary earthworks and service preparation at the site.

Lend Lease – Engineering is undertaking a $29 million package of road and bridge works on the Victoria Park Drive to accommodate additional rail lines servicing the new stadium station, and a pedestrian underpass which will connect the station to the new stadium.

“The new six-platform special event station stadium will be built at the former Belmont Park station site to allow one train to leave approximately every two minutes following events at the new Perth Stadium," Transport Minister Dean Nalder said.

Decmil announced today it had been awarded contracts from Main Roads WA and the Australian Defence Force for a combined total of $10 million.

Decmil will upgrade an ADF training facility in Port Hedland, which will involve the removal of existing modular units and the installation of new units.

The civil contract from Main Roads WA will entail the demolition and replacement of an existing bridge in Maylands, expanding Decmil’s business plan to broaden government and civil work.

“These project wins are a significant achievement for Decmil as they represent firsts for the company,” Decmil chief executive officer Scott Criddle said.

“The company’s strategy is to broaden the range of services that we can offer to our clients, with a key focus on the government sector.”

Decmil’s share price rose by 4 per cent to $1.80 at 12:30 WST.
