Former Thiess executive Ric Buratto has been recruited by Decmil Group for a newly created role as chief executive, construction and engineering.

Decmil said Mr Buratto would bolster its capacity to win larger and complex construction and engineering projects in the LNG, mining and government infrastructure sectors.

“Ric’s experience managing a tier 1 engineering business will be invaluable to Decmil as it progresses to the next stage of its development,” Decmil managing director Scott Criddle said.

Mr Buratto joined Thiess in 2000, moving through the ranks to attain the position of executive general manager for construction in 2011.

He held that position until CIMIC Group’s (formerly Leighton Holdings) restructure of its Thiess and Leighton Contractors subsidiaries, after which Thiess limited its business operations to the mining sector.

Mr Buratto briefly held the position of executive general manager, construction west, at Leighton Contractors before retiring from that position earlier this year.

Decmil executive general manager, construction and engineering, Jon Holmes will remain in his position in the executive leadership team, but will now report to Mr Buratto.

Mr Buratto is the second executive to come to Decmil immediately after holding a senior position in CIMIC group.

Ray Sputore served as general manager for Leighton Contractors before joining Decmil Group subsidiary Decmil Australia as managing director in 2011.

Mr Sputore subsequently shifted to the position of strategic development executive in 2013, and began his current role as executive manager for strategy and business development in March this year.
