Osborne Park-based Decmil Group has won a $75 million contract with BHP Billiton to upgrade and expand accommodation for the miner's existing operations and its planned South Flank iron ore project near Newman.

The Mulla Mulla village is undergoing a $105 million revamp to support current operations at Mining Area C iron ore hub and support South Flank if the project receives development approval.

Decmil chief executive Scott Criddle said the new deal followed a $13 million civil and initial works contract awarded to the company in August at the same location.

“Decmil has achieved great success in delivering complex projects across the region, reinforcing our expertise and 40 years of experience as a sector contractor,” he said

“We look forward to further solidifying our growth path and longstanding relationship with BHP.”

The $3 billion South Flank project is BHP’s preferred choice to replace production from its 80 million tonnes per annum Yandi iron ore mine when it reaches the end of its project life in the coming decade.

South Flank is expected to be submitted for board approval in the middle of next year, with first ore foreshadowed for 2021.
