RECOGNISING an opportunity to offer a different project delivery service to the resources, rail and infrastructure sectors, David Sourbutts, along with four other partners, founded Engenium in 2003.

The vision was to build a business where the critical value to the client was in the areas of project management and strategic planning smarts.

With a background in working for large international engineering companies, Mr Sourbutts has helped clients including BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Fortescue Metals Group, and Atlas Iron develop new mining projects and maintain and expand existing production facilities.

Mr Sourbutts attributes part of Engenium’s success to its focus on people, in particular maintaining a positive and supportive culture for all its 80 employees following a steep learning curve straight after the GFC.
