Dacian Gold founder Rohan Williams is stepping down from his role as chief executive and executive chairman, to be replaced by 25-year mining veteran Leigh Junk and non-executive director Ian Cochrane.

Mr Junk, a Business News 40under40 award winner, has held management positions at several prominent Western Australian mining companies, including Doray Minerals, WMC Resources, Mincor and Pilbara Manganese.

Mr Williams, who has led the company since it listed in early 2012, said the timing was right for his exit from the company.

“Dacian has come a long way in a short period and I am very proud of the exceptional achievements of our employees and contractors who have helped grow the company into a substantial gold producer,” Mr Williams said.

“I am confident that the strong production base and significant exploration upside at Mt Morgans will drive excellent returns for Dacian shareholders for many years to come.”

Mr Cochrane, who will take up the role of executive chairman, said the board was grateful to Mr Williams for his contribution over the past eight years.

“His leadership through the exploration, development, permitting, financing and ramp-up of Mt Morgans has been instrumental in positioning the company to fulfil its potential of being an established Australian gold producer,” Mr Cochrane said.
