Perth-based technology company DTI Group has won a $US7.2 million ($9.5 million) contract to install CCTV surveillance systems on light rail vehicles in the US over the next 18 months.

The company will supply and install the technology on 115 existing LRVs in the North Texas transit agency, which will include a digital surveillance system, 13 high-definition cameras with 360 panoramic views of the passenger area.

The system will also provide live streaming that is integrated into the existing facilities with construction expected to begin early this year.

The Board of Dallas Area Rapid Transit awarded the contract to DTI and the tech company said it was a strong endorsement of its integration capability.

The DART project is the largest major rail project awarded to DTI in the US.
