Cut, colour for a cause

The local division of a global engineering contractor is leading the charge in raising donations for this year’s World’s Greatest Shave.

The Bechtel WA team is leading fundraisers nationwide to raise money for a cure and help families affected by blood cancers.

Bechtel WA has raised more than $110,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

The top individual fundraiser, who also happens to be on the Bechtel WA’s team, is principal lawyer Pete McCormack, who has raised more than $73,000.

“Most people have been touched by cancers in one way or another and we are doing our bit to help,” Mr McCormack said.

World’s Greatest Shave raises about half the money the Leukaemia Foundation needs to fund its work to provide free emotional and practical support, and invest millions of dollars in research to find cures for leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders.

“The incentive to help this cause is huge. Thirty-one Australians will get the news today they have blood cancer so that’s another 31 reasons to auction off our hair to help find a cure,” Mr McCormack said.

The great shave was held last week, but donations can still be made to the foundation.
