Curtin makes deal with Chilean uni

CURTIN University of Technology has secured an agreement with the Universidad De La Serena (ULS) in Chile to share expertise in mining research and education. Each institution will contribute its particular strengths to furthering knowledge in the field of mining engineering. Under the agreement, Curtin will help ULS to boost its education program in mining geo-mechanics and will enable Chilean graduates from the program to transfer to the WA School of Mines Master of Engineering Science course. WASM director Peter Lilly said the benefits of the academic cooperation would flow on to both the local and international mining industries. The agreement was initiated by WASM Professor Ernesto Villaescusa during a recent trip to Chile to investigate underground mine support systems.
